The Long Room & Selkirk Bar
Breakfast and dinner in the room that gives the restaurant its name, tea in the garden, and a fire in the bar most evenings from October.
The Long Room runs the full depth of No. 29, which is why it is called that and not something better. It was two rooms until 1998 and still has the join in the cornicing if you look for it. Breakfast is cooked to order rather than laid out as a buffet, and dinner is a short, changing menu rather than a long, fixed one — the kitchen would rather do six dishes well than twenty adequately.

A cooked breakfast alongside the usual continental spread, and a seasonal dinner menu that changes roughly every six weeks. Non-residents are welcome at both, subject to a table being free.

Served in the smaller room overlooking the courtyard, by arrangement with reception rather than a set booking system — ask a day or two ahead if you can, though last-minute tables do turn up.
